Club History
Regional Utd - Formation of the club
Regional United F.C. was founded in 1974 through the efforts of Lorcan Harney and Seamus Ryan, who appreciated the need to offer football to a growing urban community on the south side of the city. From it's fairly humble beginnings it has grown and developed along with the city and it now stands as one of the more successful clubs in Limerick. It now boasts an excellent playing complex on the same site where it began which is a tribute to the commitment of the members to schoolboy and schoolgirl football over a long period of time.
It's growth was very quick in the early stages, and it became one of the bigger clubs playing in the Limerick District League. Today there are over 300 playing members from the ranks of Under 7 to Junior A.
Several of the original Committee who managed successful schoolboy teams stayed on to organise what has become a very successful Junior football setup, with the Junior A team being now established as one of the leading teams in the city.
Regional United teams have recently reached U/16 National Cup Final, and have had international representation at that level.
Our Junior setup which comprises of two teams have won various league and cup trophies. Players from our Júnior setup have represented the club at Junior International level. FAI Cup and Munster Cup competitions have seen our Junior teams and our Minor teams been successful in both tournaments. FAI Semi finalists, Munster Junior Cup Semi and Quarter finalists on many an occasion. Our youths captured the Munster Youth Cup to add to this success. This added to the local league and cup successes at each and every level gives the club and it's supporters continued enjoyment of it's football and great hope for the future.
The schoolgirl section of the club was formed in 2003/4 and since then has gone from strength to strength with currently 70 girls playing with the club from u8 to u18 level.
The schoolgirl section of Regional Utd plays in the Limerick County and district schoolboy and schoolgirl league and have had success at all age groups . We are very proud that players from the girls section have been part of the squads that represented Limerick at the Gaynor cup at u14 and u16 age groups.
